6 Bra Shopping Tips You Probably Haven’t Heard
Chances are good you know a bit about bra shopping if you’ve been reading our blog for a while. And if you’re new, welcome! We hope you get comfortable and stay a while.
Bra shopping is a stressful event for many women. It can bring out feelings of vulnerability and self-consciousness (though there is absolutely no reason to be). It can make us question our bodies and our boobs (“Why doesn’t this bra fit in my size?”) and wonder why bras are so hard to shop for in the first place.
Fortunately, with a little help from a bra fitter, bra shopping can get easier over time. In the spirit of getting you ready for your next shopping trip, here are a few bra shopping tips you probably haven’t heard before:
1. Plan ahead
Bra shopping takes time. If you need a bra fitting and new bras, be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get fitted and shop.
Preparing for your first bra fitting? Keep in mind that bra fittings can vary, but most take about 30-45 minutes (including time in the fitting room trying bras on). If you’re short on time, let your bra fitter know and they’ll work with your schedule to help you find what you need.
If you’re shopping for wedding lingerie or a bra for a special occasion dress, consider calling the store ahead of time and scheduling an appointment or letting them know in advance what you’re looking for so they can pull a few bras for you before you come in.
2. Window shop online before visiting a lingerie store
Prefer shopping in store for bras? You’re not alone! Bras are tricky items to buy online. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do some research ahead of time. If you have a favorite lingerie brand, head online to see what’s new with the brand. You might find a new style that you’d like to try, too.
And if your local lingerie boutique has an online store, even better. Not only will you be supporting a local business, but you’ll also be learning about lingerie and bra fitting from some of the most well-versed experts in the lingerie industry!
3. Sign up for your favorite lingerie store’s emails
Get on your favorite store’s email list to be the first to know about sales and new products. You’ll stay updated on events, find out about sales, and get a feel for their selection all from the comfort of your home!
4. Bring a trusted friend
Plan a day of shopping and pampering with a good friend. Sometimes you just need a second opinion and who knows you better than your best friends? Plus, she probably needs new bras too!
5. Don’t shop when you’re hungry
No one likes to shop when they’re hungry. To get the most out of your shopping trip, be sure to eat something before you go, so you’ll be at your best when you get there.
6. Don’t buy bras while you’re drunk
Who hasn’t bought themselves presents after a few glasses of wine? But remember: it’s never a good idea to buy bras while intoxicated. Unless you know a lingerie brand’s really well or you’re repurchasing a favorite because you absolutely need a new bra, stick to lingerie shopping sober.
