do bralettes show your nipples

It’s safe to say we’ve all been there. You glance downward to find an uncomfortable surprise: your headlights are showing, and aside from tossing on a sweater, there’s not much you can do about it. Sure, keeping warm can help avoid this embarrassing scenario, but you can’t avoid air conditioning and sheer tops forever. Bras that have moderate to thick linings such as padded bras, T-shirt bras, push-up bras and molded bras, are far less likely to cause any nipple-showing incidents. But what about occasions when you want to wear a lightweight bralette or sports bra?

Whether you’re self-conscious about your headlights in the workplace or just modest in general, these strategies should help you to conceal your nipples — no matter what bra you’re sporting.

Non-adhesive covers

Does the idea of applying something sticky to your nipples make you squeamish? Then consider non-adhesive covers, which are typically made of silicone, and will still offer an extra layer of concealment. You can place these into the cups of any bra, and as they’re seamless and smooth, with an opaque center that thins out toward the edges, they won’t show through (even under a thin bra). Many of these products are available in a range of skin tones to ensure they’re totally invisible, even under a white top. Some products even come in different diameters to accommodate a variety of nipple sizes.

Adhesive Covers

If you’re concerned about your nipple covers staying put, the adhesive variety is sure to stay in place. In fact, many women will don them when they want to go entirely bra-less under a particular dress or top. There is a multitude of different adhesive covers to choose from, so be sure to select one in a material that’s comfortable against your skin, as well as one that matches your skin tone so it isn’t noticeable. Many adhesive covers are reusable and even washable, so you can get maximum wear out of them.

Layering

If you’re planning on sporting a sheer, flowy blouse (or any top that isn’t skin tight), you can wear a camisole over your bra for an extra layer of defense against nipple visibility. Look for a cami that hugs your body and matches your skin tone if you want it to appear seamless and invisible under your shirt. You may even find this kind of camisole can double as shapewear, depending on the material and construction.

Remember:

Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal comfort level whether or not you fret about your nipples showing. (Because the truth is, we all have them — nothing to be ashamed about!) The aforementioned strategies should help prevent the high beams from making an appearance, but there are a few final tips to keep in mind. Obviously, super light, thin or clingy fabrics will draw attention to nipples, so opt for thicker fabrics or flowy cuts if it’s a major concern. Also, note that darker colors will conceal nipples better than white or light colors. Pro tip: If you need some extra help in a pinch and can’t procure nipple covers, try cutting panty liners in half and inserting them into your bra cups.
